This unique appliance can be configured either as an unmanaged switch under SonicOS Standard or as an intelligent managed LAN switching platform through the powerful SonicWALL PortShield (PortShield) architecture enabled in SonicOS Enhanced. The innovative PortShield architecture allows all 24 ports on the PRO 1260 to be independently and easily configured into custom security zones (PortShield groups), each with its own "virtual firewall," along with granular rate limiting on each interface. Virtual firewalling ensures the ports are secured not only from the Internet, but also from other devices on the LAN. Additionally, SonicOS Enhanced allows more sophisticated managed switching functions such as port-level rate limiting, traffic monitoring and statistics, and configurability for link duplex and speed.

For businesses with basic network requirements, the PRO 1260 running SonicOS Standard integrates deep packet inspection capabilities with three independent security zones: WAN, Optional port and 24-port LAN. The Optional port can either be configured as a DMZ, providing the convenience of a scalable, all-in-one solution at a low total-cost-of-ownership.

This highly integrated, rack-mountable security appliance ships in an unrestricted node configuration and supports gateway anti-virus, anti-spyware, intrusion prevention and content filtering, providing real-time protection against viruses, spyware, worms, Trojans and other malicious threats. The PRO 1260 can be easily managed remotely as part of a multi-firewall and VPN environment through a Web interface or using SonicWALL's industry-leading Global Management System (GMS).

Unique SonicWALL PortShield Architecture. Deep Packet Inspection Firewall. The PRO 1260 features a configurable, high performance deep packet inspection firewall for extended protection to key Internet services such as Web, e-mail, file transfer, Windows services, and DNS.

Real-Time Blacklist Spam Filtering. The PRO 1260 provides the ability to use DNS to query Real-Time Black List (RBL) services that track well-known spam and open-relay SMTP servers, and to deny SMTP connections from servers that appear on the lists.

Integrated Wireless LAN Services. In addition to being an integrated firewall and VPN security appliance, the PRO 1260 functions as a secure wireless switch and controller that automatically detects and configures SonicPoints, SonicWALL wireless access points, as they are added to the network while simultaneously enforcing security policies on all wired and wireless traffic.

ISP Failover. The PRO 1260 ensures continuous uptime for Internet and IPSec VPN connectivity by failing over to a second ISP link should the primary link fail. Through ISP Failover, the PRO 1260 delivers highly reliable network connectivity for constant access to critical data.

WAN Redundancy and Load Balancing. The PRO 1260 offers the ability to configure a secondary WAN port, delivering highly reliable network connectivity and robust performance. This secondary WAN port can be used in "active-active" load sharing or fail-over configuration providing a highly efficient method for maximizing total network bandwidth.

Object-based Management. The PRO 1260 provides the ability to define an object such as a user group, network address range, service or interface. When security policies change, the administrator can modify the pre-defined object and propagate the changes instantly without redefining rules, enabling businesses to implement and manage security policies easily and consistently.

Optional Port. The PRO 1260 includes an optional port that can be configured as a second LAN, a WLAN for distributed wireless, a second WAN for ISP failover or a demilitarized zone (DMZ) for public-facing servers or Internet resources.

Hardware AES Support. The PRO 1260 reflects SonicWALL's commitment to open security standards by including hardware-based acceleration support for the 3DES and AES encryption algorithms.
